About this event

Read the full introduction

2026 Seoul Craft Museum X Seoul Foundation Craft Collaboration @ Show Window #5. Death is not a massive end placed beyond life, but can be another process that stays close to our daily lives. In the past funeral culture, the vibrant colors of the flower-carrying palanquin and the humor of the puppets showed a perspective that viewed death not as an event completely separate from life, but as a process in which a familiar being moves to a new path. "The Path That Continues Even After Disappearance" starts from this perspective of traditional funeral culture and reinterprets the meaning of the palanquin in contemporary craft language. Kim A-ya creates hills, paths, and flowing spaces using wool felt, silk, and Korean paper, while Kim Ye-seul arranges clay-made horses, chickens, carp, giraffes, and cranes to show the journey unfolding within. The animals symbolize the changes in existence, including departure and disintegration, flow and movement, and reconstruction. The different materials of textiles and ceramics meet within a single landscape, revealing the boundary between life and death, existence and absence. Following the journey of the animals that extends beyond the show window, we encounter the departed being, the remaining memories, and the possibility of life continuing in a different form. ※ The "Craft Collaboration @ Show Window" exhibition at the Seoul Craft Museum is a citizen communication craft program that directly receives content proposals from craft artists, and this exhibition is a collaboration with young craft artists from the Seoul Foundation (Sindang Creation Arcade). Participating artists: Kim A-ya, Kim Ye-seul.
